国立精神・神経センター精神保健研究所で10年以上、日本の精神医療サービスの利用状況に関する悉皆調査を担当し、政策決定に必要な統計情報を提供するとともに、調査データを日本の精神医療の政策評価に用いてきた。主な専門は疫学・生物統計学。統計数理研究所医療・健康データ科学研究センターの客員教授として、統計教育を通じて生物統計学の高度専門家や人材の育成を行ってきた。また、NCNP、国立国際医療研究センター、東京大学大学院医学系研究科医療品質評価学講座などで、統計的因果推論手法の応用により、精神・神経疾患の臨床試験,非感染性疾患の疫学調査、外科的介入のレジストリデータを活用した観察研究における研究の質向上に取り組む。こうした活動を通じて、データを活用することで誰もがwell-beingな社会の実現を目指している。
